Portugal Cove-St. Philip's entrepreneur
Portugal Cove – St. Philips, NL – The second $10,000
Aliant/BayBYTES Rural Technology Grant, sponsored by Aliant,

Newfoundland. Mr. Lane was chosen for his business proposal
for start-up photo-documentation company Digital Works. He is

The Aliant/BayBYTES Rural Technology Grant is awarded to the
winner of a competition that challenges students and recent
graduates of the College of the North Atlantic’s technology

“This grant presents a great
opportunity for Newfoundland and Labrador’s business
sector," says Jim Organ, Vice President sales at Aliant.
"It gives young entrepreneurs from rural areas an
opportunity to stay in their home communities and
contribute by starting a business.”
Mr. Lane’s innovative
start-up business Digital Works, will provide high
quality photo-documentation services. The business will
provide a much-needed service to personal and commercial
property insurance owners.
”I would first like to thank Aliant and BayBYTES for
creating the Rural Start-up Grant competition. I am
thrilled to be the second recipient,” says Mark Lane of
Digital Works. “The funds will go a long way towards
helping me establish my business right here at home,
where I can take advantage of the low costs associated
with operating in a rural community. |

“We are proud to be serving the province with post-secondary
education programs that prepare entrepreneurs such as Mark
Lane. Our rural youth have tremendous skill and energy and it
is encouraging to see innovative youth businesses such as
Digital Works developing in rural parts of Newfoundland and
